JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
Montessori credential required (or a willingness to obtain a credential), AMS credential preferred.
Teaching experience preferred.
Advanced degree desirable.
Demonstrated effectiveness in working with children.
Skills
High flexibility, communication, and organizational skills are needed to collaborate with co-teacher effectively.
Ability to communicate effectively, succinctly, and professionally to parents in both oral and written form.
Creative, resourceful, and innovative in classroom practices.
Knowledge of and willingness to further education in Positive Discipline methods.
Responsibilities are met in a timely manner, a strong work ethic is demonstrated.
Proficient in crafting clear, concise, and effective written communication.
Deep understanding of, and commitment to, providing an authentic Montessori education.
Contribute to a positive school-wide work culture.
Hours of Employment
Holidays and additional paid time off.
7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Weekdays throughout the year, pursuant to days listed on contract.
Run a Summer Learning Camp class at least one week during the Summer (paid).
Expected to attend designated school functions and after-hours meetings and events.
Expected to attend faculty meetings/professional development sessions every other week throughout the school year.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program/Class Management
Empower students by establishing trusting, respectful relationships that nurture children's responsibility and joy in their own learning. (-AMS)
Conduct consistent classroom management within a positive discipline framework.
Set goals and clear expectations/work plans for each child.
Provide lessons based on frequent observations of the child/children’s readiness.
Collaborate with co-teacher on curriculum and key lessons.
Plan and attend at least one field trip a year.
Classroom Preparation and Maintenance
Ensure the classroom is well-equipped for curriculum implementation. Maintain a clean and orderly prepared classroom environment. Report repairs and safety hazards promptly. Respond to the needs of the children by adjusting the environment.
Record Keeping/Evaluation
Keep accurate records of each student’s progress academically, socially, and emotionally. Maintain daily attendance records. Check student work daily and give clear feedback. Prepare twice-yearly progress reports; discuss progress with parents regularly. Report significant communications with parents to the Director. Conduct regular recorded observations.
Health/Safety
Follow health and safety procedures outlined in the Personnel Manual. Possess CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Training as required. Ensure appropriate supervision of students at all times.
Professional Growth
Stay well-read in Montessori research, education, and philosophy. Stay well-read in Positive Discipline pedagogy and practice. Stay informed in the field of education; attend professional meetings, workshops, and AMS seminars. Meet minimum professional development hours as set forth by AMS. Share information learned with colleagues. Define yearly goals in collaboration with the Director.
Responsibility to the School Community
Meet with co-teachers weekly to evaluate student progress and plan lessons. Maintain a positive team spirit; avoid negative conversations and gossip. Work respectfully with all faculty and staff; maintain confidentiality. Uphold a professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times. Ensure consistent practice of grace and courtesy daily and at all school events. The teacher is responsible to the Director. All employees of White Rock Montessori School are expected to abide by the code of ethics and all policies as set forth in the White Rock Montessori Personnel Manual.
